Literacy Day

Since 2012 Plymouth Soroptimists have supported International Literacy Day.  On November 17 1965, UNESCO declared that September 8 would be International Literacy Day. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.  Giving away books is a great way to encourage people of all ages to read.

Members collect paperback books and give away about 2,000 books a year to children, teenagers and adults.

Children are always very pleased to choose their own book!
