Disaster Aid for Nepal
Supporting clean Water & Sanitation
Plymouth Soroptimists sent a total of £900 for disaster aid to Nepal following the last earthquake. In the past Plymouth and District Club have worked with NEWHA (Nepal Water and Health Authority) on two projects, the most recent being to provide a whole village Khairahani (Kandi) of almost 200 people with 9 clean safe tube water wells and a latrine for every household. The village is in the Bagauda District of Chitwan National Park, Nepal.
This means that the women and girls of the village not only have access to better health but have more time for education rather than water gathering and most importantly do not have to risk going into the forest for their toileting needs.
This is the second village for which that the Club have provided these essential facilities in the past 8 years.
Since we have been in direct contact with NEWHA we know that the money will go directly to where it is most needed.
