Who we are

Formed in 1930, we are a worldwide voluntary organisation of women working through projects to advance human rights and status for women.
There are more than 3,000 Soroptimist clubs in over 124 countries.

We are improving the lives of women and girls in our local communities and throughout the world.  Soroptimists come from a wide diversity of cultures and circumstances.

Our Plymouth club has over 30 members and we are always very keen to increase our numbers and welcome new members.  Our current President is Jenny Jarvis.  We are a very friendly group of all ages and backgrounds and have many different interests.  Anyone wanting to find out more about us can come along to our meetings to see what we do, and can take time to decide whether or not to join – there is no obligation or pressure.  As well as a great way to help others, it’s also a really good opportunity to make new friends.  As well as fund-raising events, we also have many different social events through the year so it’s not all work and no play!

Our principal aims are:

Educating

Empowering

Enabling

Soroptimist International is a vibrant organisation for today’s women. We are committed to a world where women and girls together can achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.

Through international partnerships and a global network of members, Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by: advocating for equity and equality; creating safe and healthy environments; increasing access to education; developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.
