International Women’s Day 2015

STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE!

104 Women dead !

This year for International Women’s Day, Plymouth’s Soroptimists are highlighting the fact that TWO women EVERY week are killed by their partners or ex-partners in the UK.

That’s 104 women each year who die through domestic violence.

The focus is on the millions of women and children in Britain who are affected by Domestic Abuse. This is an unacceptable crime and must be brought to the attention of the general public.

Working in partnership with the Plymouth Domestic Abuse Service, Plymouth Social Inclusion team, the Women’s Refuge, SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) and the Fawcett Society in Plymouth, the event will highlight Domestic Abuse. This is also the fastest growing area of violent crime nationally. We are kindly supported by the social inclusion unit.

We will have a display of 104 pairs of women’s shoes to represent the number killed affected as well as for family and friends who want to help.

The children from the Women’s Refuge have designed and created an art display to highlight the number of children affected, which will be on show – in Plymouth Refuge, 67 children were supported last year.

One in three women are affected in the UK at any one time – SI Plymouth seek to inform and educate to work towards stopping this trend and to ensure all women and children are safe in their own homes.

The event will be held outside BHS on SATURDAY 8TH MARCH between 10am and 4pm. Please come along to find out more. Representatives from various support agencies will be available on the day to signpost those in need and provide advice and information about the services they offe
